The homestead isn’t going as planned for the garden this year. Some of the garden ahs gone in a long with some new perinials but so much never got done because life just didn’t go as planned, The season wont be a total wash.
We will continue to plant what we have time for and spend time building new garden beds to help make next years garden season better then ever. The twists and turns form weather that is far from normal. We had a frost over the weekend in late May reducing our growing time for an already short season. The cost to get more live plants now it is too late to direct sow a lot will be high but worth it.
My sons broken arm has been a major strain on time and having his extra hands to help with things here. He went from loving to help with digging and building to needing help with basic tasks. He has another appointment in a couple days as we are hoping beyond hope that the bone has finaly set in place and doesn’t need adjusted yet again. If it does the next option is surgery to put in pins.
My sisters cancer treatment has been a would ride. Before this year we didn’t even know you could get melanoma in the eye. We really didn’t imagine we would be dealing with radiation treatment. This past week I had the provlage of caring for my sister while she went through her treatment. I spent much more time with her than I probably should have, but I took potassium iodide to help give me some protection from the radioactive Iodine 125 that was in her plaque therapy treatment. This was a personal choice to dig into our emergency kit as a precaution, though not medically advised. I liked having the peace of mind and will stock a fresh bottle for our emergency kit.
The quail are almost ready to move outside. (This pic is a bit old) If it had been warmer like last year, they would already be outside. A few more weeks and we will be collecting eggs from the quail cages, and I couldn’t be more excited. It feels like forever since we have had home-raised quail eggs. Raising them again was a spur-of-the-moment decision I do not regret one bit, though I have to admit having the brooder full has helped keep me from buying more chickens.
Riding season is in full swing, and we are preparing for our trip to Marquette. I am so excited because I haven’t been to the UP before. I have been hitting the gym hard every chance I get to help make sure that I am strong and have the energy for that long of a ride and the late nights involved in a weekend bike trip.
Remember that life doesn’t always go as planned and your schedule or natures mayu not always line up to your gaols but that doesn’t mean you should give up, back down, or let it bother you because at the end of the day as long as you have another breath ahead of you your life can eventually fall back in line, your dreams can still become a reality.
This song has been my obsesson since they started to drip the promos. It hits pretty hard thinking about my past but I feel a sense of of pride that my kids can’t relate to it and don’t understand my obsession. I means I have broken those chains.
Now, if you don’t mind, you will find me outside attacking the garden because the lambs quarter and mugwort have decided that all this rain means it is time to take over everything it can.
