Bedtime Calming Lotion *Easy DIY*

June 12, 2025

Is bedtime a fight for your family? Do you find the toddler sleeping on the stairs because she got up and ran away after bedtime… That can’t be just us… Right?

This bedtime calming lotion helps your child settle into a relaxed state, fall asleep, and stay asleep naturally.

Nighttime rituals are one of the best ways to get your little ones down a little easier.  Gently massaging on lotion scented with lavender is relaxing for them and for you, making bedtime a little less of a battle and little more like a treat.

I have put together an easy Bedtime Calming Lotion that you can make and keep on hand as part of your before bed routine-after bath before a couple sweet bedtime stories and lots of cuddles and being tucked in.

Helping kids fall asleep is just one of the amazing uses for lavender and this lotion made with it. Here are a few more uses.

  • Soothe a sunburn
  • Calm a rash
  • Repel mosquitoes

Make your own Bedtime Calming Lotion:

Ingredients:
½ cup coconut oil
1 T. Shea Butter
8-10 drops Lavender essential oil or give Calming the Child blend a try

*As an alternate you can use bergamot or tangerine essential oil to keep them changing regularly and keep the effects going.

How to make Bedtime Calming Lotion:

Place coconut oil and shea butter in a small pan over medium heat until just melted, stirring frequently

Remove from heat, pour into metal bowl for your stand mixer and place in refrigerator until it just begins to firm up on the top- about 10-15 minutes. Do not let it harden, but if it does just set it out until softened.

Whip on high until mixture doubles in size.

Add lavender oil to scent preference, whip a bit more to combine.

Transfer to a jar with an airtight container to store.

Keep in a cool dark place, coconut oil melts at body temperature, if your lotion becomes too soft you can pop it in the fridge for a few minutes and re whip it in the mixer.

Bedtime routines are important for kids to sleep well and grow but they are also important for us as adults. This lotion is a great addition to your bedtime routine as well.

this easy to make lotion will calm your children for an easier bedtime Save

Try using some, putting your phone down, and picking up a good old fashioned paper book next time you find yourself having a hard time sleeping.
